Gołoborza świętokrzyskie powstały w wyniku wietrzenia późnokambryjskich piaskowców kwarcytowych w okresie czwartorzędu. Głównym czynnikiem powstania gołoborzy był klimat, czyli zmiany temperatury - zamarzanie i rozmarzanie podłoża; zamarzanie wody w szczelinach i spękaniach powodujące rozpad skał. Nazwa Gołoborze funkcjonuje tylko w regionie Świętokrzyskim. Gołoborze stało się symbolem Gór Świętokrzyskich.

The Świętokrzyskie boulder fields were created as a result of weathering of the late Cambrian quartzite sandstones in the period of the Quaternary. The main factor of the boulder fields creation was the climate, i.e. changes of temperature - freezing and thawing of the background; freezing of water in the cracks and fractures causing the disintegration of rocks. The name 'gołoborze' refers only to the Świętokrzyski region. The 'Gołoborze' became the symbol of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.

 
Die kahlen Bergrücken im Świętokrzyskiegebirge sind durch Spätkambriumverwitterung des Quarzsandsteines im Quartär entstanden. Der wichtigste Faktor war das Klima d.h Temperaturunterschiede des  Boden- und Wassereinfrierens und – auftauens, die die Felsenzersplitterung verursacht haben. Kahle Bergrücken wurden das Symbol des Świętokrzyskie-gebirges. Dieser Name gilt nur in dieser Region.
